![]() ![]() I do like the flexibility of amps such as the Vox Valvetronix. Is it worth taking the risk on the used AVT50? (Of course I will test it out and if it sucks that will make my decision for me.) Many people on the forum swear by Tube amps such as the Peavey Classic, but I would never be able to do a tube amp justice by cranking it up in my small apt. I thought about swapping out the pickups (I'm partial to the SD Custom Custom on my idol 66) but then I dusted off the MG15 Marshall and plugged in and got more of the GNR, hard rocking sound I'm looking for. I also have the VOX valvetronix AD15VT and I thought about upgrading that to the 30 or 50 but the stock ceramic pickups in my new LP Classic sound a little muddy on the VOX. ![]() I have the 15watt MG Marshall which has a nice tone for what it is. I'm looking for the amp to be 80% practice at low volume, 20% band practice with a drummer. ![]() However, like most places, GC does not carry the Valvestate ones anymore so I can't compare it in the store. ![]() My plan was to go to Guitar Center just to try out different amps. That said each has its pro’s and cons.I have a chance to pick up a used Marshall AVT50 Valvestate in the next couple of days for $250. I would have to say the Marshall comes in first followed by the Orange, HOTOne, and then the Firebrand. They are all great amps I use for practice and writing music. The Marshall also has a really warm clean tone, reverb, and a FX Loop and other onboard options. The Marshall has more power and Much more saturation gain with little breakup. Now there is no comparison to the Marshall which is its own sound. I like that it has a Bluetooth option as well as a 12AX7 preamp 8/10. This amp has a great really heavy gain sound, but lacks a full clean tone. The Orange Micro Dark in my opinion is the most versatile of the LBA which has that clean Orange Twang and delivers ample gain for most styles blues to hardcore metal it also sports a 12AX7 preamp and handles pedals perfectly, FX Loop 9/10 The Joyo Bantamp Firebrand is another clone of a Engle Powerball. The Hotone Captain Sunset is a clone of a Soldano SLO-100 and has an amazing similar comparison. All 4 are practice amps though the Orange, FireBrand can push a 4x12 cab ohms. ![]()
